Your child knows how to do the math.
You know your child knows how to do the math.
Yet somehow, 45 minutes into homework, the pencil is broken, the water bottle needs an emergency refill, and the worksheet that was literally just here has vanished.
Welcome to homework. Where 10 minutes of work somehow takes 47 minutes. 😂
Here’s the thing:
It might not be the math.
When Knowing It Isn’t Enough
Sometimes kids need tutoring. They need someone to reteach fractions, explain long division, or help them strengthen reading skills.
What if your child understands the work and still struggles to actually do it?
Maybe getting started takes forever.
Directions disappear somewhere between getting “Go get your backpack” to arriving upstairs.
A 20-minute assignment becomes a two-hour event.
The homework gets finished and never makes it into the teacher’s hands.
That’s where Educational Therapy comes in.
What is Educational Therapy?
Think of it this way:
Tutoring helps with what your child is learning.
Educational therapy helps with what may be getting in the way of learning.
Things like planning, organization, working memory, attention, getting started, managing frustration, and figuring out what to do when something feels completely overwhelming.
And education therapy doesn’t have to look like more school after school.
In my sessions, we might use games, movement, challenges, visual tools, or hands-on-activities to practice the same skills kids need when they’re staring at a backpack full of crumpled papers at 4:17p.m. on a Tuesday afternoon.
I don’t mind if a child can’t organize something perfectly while sitting across from me.
I want them to be able to use that skill when real life gets messy.
Does My Child Need Tutoring or Educational Therapy?
Here’s one question that can help:
Does my child not know HOW to do the work or do they know how, but something keeps getting in the way of doing it?
Sometimes the answer is tutoring.
Sometimes it’s both.
The goal isn’t to add another hour added to your child’s week.
It’s figuring out where things are getting stuck and giving your child tools that actually help.
Not Sure What Your Child Needs?
You don’t have to figure it out while checking the school portal, reheating dinner, and searching for the homework folder that apparently entered another dimension.
That’s what a Discovery Session is for.
We can talk about what you’re seeing, where your child is struggling, and whether educational therapy might be a good fit.
Let’s figure this out together.
A little About Me
I’m Loretta, and I help kids with ADHD build confidence, strengthen executive function skills and learn how to handle those really big emotions that can sometimes take over.
Through educational therapy and coaching, I help kids discover tools that work for the way they learn and help parents understand how to support them along the way.
